Harris criticizes Trump in first major speech since leaving office
Former Vice President Kamala Harris said we are witnessing an “abandonment” of American ideals in her first major speech since leaving office.
Former Vice President Kamala Harris praised Joe Biden as a “fighter” and wished him a “full and speedy recovery” after the former president was diagnosed with prostate cancer.
“Doug and I are saddened to learn of President Biden’s prostate cancer diagnosis,” Harris said in a statement on behalf of herself and her husband. “We are keeping him, Dr. Biden, and their entire family in our hearts and prayers during this time. Joe is a fighter — and I know he will face this challenge with the same strength, resilience, and optimism that have always defined his life and leadership. We are hopeful for a full and speedy recovery.”
Harris ran against Biden in the 2020 Democratic presidential primary and served as his vice president between 2021 and 2025. She took over the Democratic nomination for president when Biden dropped out after a faltering debate performance that raised questions about his age and mental acuity.
A Biden spokesperson announced May 18 that the former president has an “aggressive form” of prostate cancer that has spread to the bone.
“The President and his family are reviewing treatment options with his physicians,” the statement added.
