Majority disapprove of Trump’s job as president ahead of 100 day mark
President Donald Trump started off with higher approval ratings this year, but his ratings in April 2017 and April 2025 are the two lowest approval marks among any newly-elected president since 1953, according to historical data from Gallup.
It’s been a whirlwind first 100 days: Trump’s unprecedented use of executive powers in recent months has slashed the federal workforce, banned diversity programs, dismantled USAID, divided opposition Democrats over how to respond and prompted longstanding U.S. allies to calculate how to navigate a new global reality.
- A majority of Americans disapprove of Trump’s job so far. When asked what emotions best describe how they feel about the current presidential administration, most respondents in a new NBC poll said “furious” and “dissatisfied.”
- Trump is set to speak Tuesday night in Michigan as he returns to the swing state to mark his 100th day in office.
- Immigration in focus: Millions of Americans voted for Trump in part for his hard stance on immigration. His administration has instituted a far-reaching crackdown, but polls suggest his support is slipping as campaign promises become reality.
Canadian fury at Trump leads Liberals to victory
Mark Carney won the Canadian election to continue his term as prime minister, Canadian and U.S. news outlets reported late Monday night. The win represented a repudiation of President Trump’s volley of threats to annex Canada and make it the “51st state.” That rhetoric â along with punishing tariffs on Canadian goods â has sparked an unprecedented wave of Canadian nationalism and overturned years of stability between the two neighbors. The Liberal Party reacted to Trump with a remarkable political comeback.

Congress starts working on Trump’s ‘big beautiful bill’
After weeks of negotiating a blueprint for President Trump’s legislative agenda, lawmakers returned this week to Washington with plans to hammer out the details of what the president calls one “big, beautiful bill.” Over the next several weeks, lawmakers will craft a sweeping package of Trump’s priorities for taxes, border security and energy they will eventually pass along party lines. It is likely to be the marquee piece of legislation passed during Trump’s second term. But the path forward will be rife with intra-party challenges for Republicans.
Did a rare weather event cause Europe’s blackout?
An “induced atmospheric vibration” may have been behind reports of a massive blackout in Europe that left millions powerless. The rare phenomenon can occur when power lines are affected by weather changes, such as rapid swings in temperature or wind speed. The outage was centered in Spain on Monday, where the lack of power caused widespread chaos. It brought parts of Spain and Portugal to a standstill, grounding planes, halting public transport and forcing some hospitals to suspend routine operations. Experts say such an event can occur “anywhere there are transmission lines” â including in the U.S.
